mucho mundo's first year: 52 journeys through self-discovery
Time flies when you're discovering the world! mucho mundo has just turned one, and it's been a whirlwind of travel, inspiration, and personal growth. From the sun-drenched shores of Zadar to the lush gardens of Kyoto, from the colors of Buenos Aires to the crystalline waters of Lake Geneva, we've been exploring not just destinations, but what they can reveal about us.
52 articles, every Monday, without fail. Thousands of page views and visitors. Thank you.
This project started with a simple idea: that travel isn't just about places, but about experiences that transform us. Put differently, each destination is an opportunity to collect moments, lessons, and a deeper understanding of ourselves. We receive some answers and ask some further questions, leaving renewed.
It’s hard to believe that a year has flown by since I first hit “publish” on mucho mundo, starting with an ode to Valencia. That first article was more than just a guide—it was a love letter to the city, and to the power of travel to spark creativity and renewal. Valencia’s blend of history and modern flair mirrored the beginning of my own journey into the world of travel writing, setting the tone for everything that came after.
This past year, we’ve also wandered together through the grand streets of Vienna. There’s something about Vienna’s majestic palaces and timeless coffee houses that makes you pause and consider your place in the grand tapestry of life. It’s a city that encourages deep thought, and my time there was filled with moments of introspection, which I shared in my article on Vienna’s ability to evoke a sense of wonder and continuity.
Then there was Buenos Aires, a city that swept me off my feet with its passionate tango, vibrant neighborhoods, and deep sense of history. Walking through the colorful streets of La Boca or exploring the literary corners of Café Tortoni, I found myself thinking about the dance between tradition and modernity, and how Buenos Aires embodies that ‘identity crisis’ so beautifully.
Then came Rome, the Eternal City, where every corner seems to whisper stories of the past. In my article about Rome, I explored how the city’s layers of history—from the ancient ruins of the Colosseum to the grandeur of the Vatican—remind us of the power of decision-making and standing up for yourself.
Madrid is for the Bold delves into how the vibrant streets and rich culture of the Spanish capital can reignite your confidence and creativity. Whether you're wandering through the art-filled halls of the Reina Sofia or getting lost in the historic neighborhoods, Madrid challenges you to be brave and embrace new perspectives.
Hong Kong took me on a journey through contrasts, where East meets West. I delved into how the city’s skyline, with its futuristic skyscrapers set against the backdrop of lush mountains, is a metaphor for embracing change while staying grounded in one’s roots. Hong Kong's blend of tradition and modernity pushed me to reflect on adaptability and healing, as well as the importance of staying true to oneself amid constant change.
Even if they can work perfectly for traveling in a couple or group travel, the mucho mundo articles are particularly designed to empower the solo traveler, offering the tools and insights needed to make the most of your solitary adventures.
